Jeanne Doreau

Since 2018, I have been a research engineer at CETU (Center for Tunnel Studies), which is a technical institution of the French Ministry of Transports. My activities are primarily dedicated to asset management of tunnels (structural aspects only).

I hold a master’s degree in civil engineering (2015) and a Ph.D. in Geomechanics (2018) from the University of Grenoble Alpes, France. My doctoral research focused on the behaviour of soil-structure interaction at the microscale using x-ray tomography experiments and 3D-image analysis.

In my current role, my responsibilities combine both engineering and research. As an example of ongoing engineering projects, I am assisting tunnel owners and operators of binational tunnels, as Eurostar or Mont Blanc, in enhancing their structural surveillance policy. I am also conducting structural health assessments, for instance, of old railway masonry tunnels that are being repurposed for bicycle and pedestrian use.

My research at CETU focuses on innovative solutions to facilitate asset management, including the use BIM (Building Information Modeling), AI (Artificial Intelligence) or automated inspection tools. On these topics I contribute to the technical guidelines.

Finally, I am vice-animator of ITA WG6 “Maintenance and Repair” in which we deal with injection repairs, preventive maintenance and refurbishment.
